Barcode lines in Puerto Banús, Marbella
Softening the fine vertical lines that appear above the upper lip with hyaluronic acid, without surgery. It all starts with a consultation: the doctor examines the skin of the area and tells you whether the treatment is right for you.

What does it involve?
Barcode lines, also known as smoker’s lines, are fine vertical wrinkles around the lips. They can be caused by ageing or by repeated movements of the mouth.
The doctor works with hyaluronic acid using a technique called blanching, suited to these fine lines. Depending on the extent of the area, one or two vials are used.
«If you can “feel” the filler, was the procedure done badly?»

Good to know
The doctor assesses in consultation whether the treatment is right for you. As a rule it is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, nor if there is an active infection in the area, such as a cold sore. Please tell us about your allergies, medication and previous treatments.
Your questions
How long does the result last?
It depends on the product, the area and each person. The doctor gives you an indicative duration for your case in consultation.
What is blanching?
It is the injection technique we use for these fine lines. The doctor explains it in consultation and tells you whether it suits your skin.
What if my skin is thin?
The doctor assesses your skin in consultation before deciding. Dr Laura J. Leon answers this question in one of the videos on this page.
Is it painful?
We apply an anaesthetic cream before the treatment for your comfort. The sensation varies from person to person.
Is it reversible?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved if necessary, with a specific product and always on medical advice.
